Hey there, you beautiful badass. Welcome to bite sized bits of wisdom.
Mahara Wayman [00:00:47]:
This is a short spin off from the art of badassery podcast. I'm your host, Mahara Wayman. And today, we're diving into a topic that will literally change the way you live your life. Clarity. Now I know it sounds zen and maybe mystical, but really clarity is about one thing and one thing only. Getting clear on who you are, what you want, why you want it, and how you're gonna get there. I like to think of clarity as our North Star. Without it, we're just wandering around in the dark hoping to stumble on success or happiness or worthiness.
Mahara Wayman [00:01:27]:
But spoiler alert folks, that's not how it works. So let me tell you a quick story about one time that I didn't have clarity. And just so we are clear, there have been many times in my life when I struggled with clarity. But this is the one I'm gonna share with you today. A few years back, I found myself standing in front of the fridge for the 3rd time that day. And those of you that know me are probably gonna assume it's because I was hungry yet again. But no, it wasn't because I was hungry it was truly because I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with my life I was just just had been invited to leave the corporate world a world that I had been in for many years it was 1 year into COVID and I was stuck in the land of should do you know that place? I should be doing this I should you know update my resume I should have done that. I I should want this or I shouldn't want that.
Mahara Wayman [00:02:27]:
Honestly, it was it was like a mental treadmill that I couldn't get off. I was running in circles but going nowhere. So clarity is what gets you off that treadmill, and it's what helps you break free from all of the shoulds and allows you to focus on what truly matters to you. But here's the thing. Gaining clarity isn't like just flipping a light switch. It's actually a process. Sometimes it can feel like you're wiping dirt off a window with a really smudgy rag. It's very messy at first, but the more you wipe away, the clearer things become.
Mahara Wayman [00:03:04]:
And you start to see the bigger picture. You start to glimpse those things that light you up. The things that feel really aligned with your values and what makes you smile and the things that just need to go. Now I want to be very clear here. When I was going through my journey of discovery and getting real clear, I discovered a lot of the things that needed to go in my life were the stories that I made up about who I was based on some of the outcomes that I'd had in my life. So just know that when you are looking for clarity in your life, it may start on the outside. That ugly couch has to go. But chances are you'll end up looking at your thoughts and the life that you have created on the inside.
Mahara Wayman [00:03:54]:
Okay. Let's get back on track. Think about it. When was the last time you felt a 100% clear on what you wanted or how you were going to get it? Not just in your job or in your relationships, but in life. Well, when you're crystal clear, every decision becomes easier. You know exactly where you're headed, and more importantly, you can say no to all the noise. Right? All of the distractions, the people and the opportunities that don't actually align with your path. And I I know that can be tough.
Mahara Wayman [00:04:29]:
Many of us have been raised to say yes, or we have this feeling that we need to say yes to everything that comes our way. But when we are clear on what we want less of in our lives, like drama, like pain and hurt and confusion, maybe a particular show on TV. But when we are clear on what we want less of in our lives, it's easier to say no to that and yes to what we do want. Right? Let's be real. Clarity, it's kind of like the GPS for your life, except without that annoying recalculating voice every time you miss a turn. Although I do admit if life did have a GPS and it could tell me things like Mahara in 400 meters dump that toxic friendship or it's Mahara turn left to avoid burnout. I would be all for it. But you know what? Joking aside, I want to share with you a few tips that will help you to find clarity in your life.
Mahara Wayman [00:05:30]:
Number 1 channel your inner Sherlock. Yes, get curious grab a magnifying glass or your phone and investigate your life. Ask yourself questions like, you know, what do I wanna do when I grow up? Or, you know, what do I want to where do I wanna live? Do I wanna live here or there? Do I wanna be a rock star, a professional napper? And I am, of course, throwing some humor in this, but really, when was the last time you asked yourself really powerful questions? The second tip to help you get clarity in your life is what I like to think of as the yum test. When making decisions, ask yourself, does this make me go yum or yuck? If it's the latter, ditch it faster than your last New Year's Eve resolution because you want to make choices that make you go yum. Alright. The 3rd tip to getting clarity in your life is get a clue from your friends. Guys, ask your friends what they think you're great at. Now this may feel a little uncomfortable, so be ready for some awkward honesty.
Mahara Wayman [00:06:41]:
You know, remember that time you tried to sing? Yeah. Not so much. Stick to karaoke. All joking aside, your friends know you and love you. And they will tell you what they see in you because sometimes we don't see it in ourselves. So these tips will help you to get some clarity in your life, hopefully with a little bit of laughter and maybe some ice cream along the way. So some takeaways from this first bits and bytes podcast. Clarity is your North Star.
Mahara Wayman [00:07:10]:
Without it, you may just find yourself floating through your life reacting to whatever comes your way. But with clarity, every decision you make becomes intentional and you can actually navigate toward the life you want. Number 2, clarity requires action. Guys, you can't just wait for clarity to magically show up. You do have to do some work. You've got to dig deep and ask yourself, you know, the tough questions. What do I really want? What lights me up? And what am I willing to let go of? Like those, you know, those voices that tell you you're not good enough. Limiting beliefs is a whole another topic, but are you ready to let go of them? Again, tongue in cheek, you may want to just let go of some ugly furniture in your house, but ask yourself, what do I need less of in my life? Number 3 3rd takeaway today is that Clarity helps you to set boundaries.
Mahara Wayman [00:08:10]:
Once you know where you're heading folks, say no to the things that don't serve you becomes so much easier. Take my word on this. When you do that, you stop letting other people's priorities dictate your life. So okay are we in agreement? Clarity is key to living a great life in my world that translates to living a badass life.
